Session One Studios

Model Release Policy

Last updated: February 20, 2026

Overview

This policy outlines Session One Studios' practices regarding the use of photographs for promotional, portfolio, and marketing purposes, and explains the rights of individuals depicted in those photographs.

All clients and session participants are required to acknowledge this policy prior to their session. By proceeding with a booking, you confirm that you have read and agree to the terms below.

1. What Is a Model Release?

A model release is an agreement between Session One Studios and the individual(s) photographed during a session. It grants Session One Studios permission to use those photographs for specified purposes beyond simply delivering them to the client.

Model releases protect both parties — they ensure clients understand how their images may be used, and they give Session One Studios the legal right to showcase its work publicly.

2. Standard Release — Included With All Sessions

Unless a written opt-out is submitted prior to the session date, all clients and session participants are considered to have granted Session One Studios a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use photographs from their session for the following purposes:

  • Studio portfolio (website gallery, in-studio display, print portfolio)
  • Social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and others)
  • Promotional and marketing materials for Session One Studios
  • Advertising campaigns promoting Session One Studios' services
  • Industry publications, award submissions, and editorial features

This license is granted for an indefinite period and does not entitle the client or participant to any compensation beyond the photography services rendered.

3. Opting Out

Clients and participants who do not wish to have their images used for studio promotional purposes may submit a written opt-out request before their session date.

  • Opt-out requests must be submitted in writing to info@sessionone.studio
  • Requests received after the session has taken place will be honored where reasonably possible but cannot be guaranteed, particularly if images have already been published
  • Opting out has no effect on session quality, image delivery, or any other aspect of the client experience

4. Minors

For sessions involving individuals under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must:

  • Be present throughout the session
  • Sign a separate written model release form on behalf of the minor prior to the session beginning
  • Provide proof of parental or guardian status if requested

Session One Studios will not photograph minors without a signed release from a parent or legal guardian. Sessions will not proceed until this requirement is met.

5. Group & Corporate Sessions

For sessions involving multiple participants (e.g., corporate team headshots, family portraits, group shoots):

  • The primary booking client is responsible for communicating this policy to all participants in advance
  • All adult participants must individually acknowledge and agree to the terms of this policy
  • Session One Studios may require signed release forms from each adult participant prior to the session
  • Any participant who does not wish to be included in promotional use must submit an opt-out request before the session date

6. Commercial Use of Participant Images

The standard release described in Section 2 covers use of images to promote Session One Studios' photography services only. It does not grant Session One Studios the right to:

  • License or sell images to third parties for commercial purposes unrelated to the studio
  • Use images to endorse or promote third-party products, services, or brands
  • Use images in a manner that implies a participant's endorsement of any product or cause

Any use beyond the scope described in this policy requires a separate written agreement with the individual(s) depicted.

7. Right of Publicity & Dignity

Session One Studios is committed to using all photographs in a manner that is respectful, professional, and consistent with the context in which they were taken. We will not use images in a way that is defamatory, misleading, sexually explicit, or otherwise harmful to the reputation or dignity of any individual depicted.

8. Withdrawal of Consent

Participants who have previously granted consent under the standard release may submit a written request to withdraw consent for future use of their images. Upon receipt of a valid withdrawal request, Session One Studios will:

  • Cease use of the relevant images in new promotional materials
  • Make reasonable efforts to remove images from existing published materials where technically and practically feasible

Withdrawal of consent does not affect any use that occurred prior to the request being received.
